HAWL's Legacy Project - Celebrating 40 Years (1982-2022)

Our History

In 1981, a small group of 15-20 women lawyers who met regularly for  lunch had a vision. That vision has now turned into a  well-respected organization that boasts over 300 members. Our  organization was awarded FAWL’s 2011 Outstanding Chapter Award.

Since its inception in 1981 and its subsequent incorporation in 1991,  HAWL has promoted and recognized the contributions of women within the  legal profession and judiciary, improved the administration of justice,  disseminated legal knowledge to all members of the community and  particularly to women, and improved relations among members of the Bar,  the Judiciary and the public.

HAWL'S MISSION

To be a diverse, inclusive organization dedicated to promoting gender equality in the legal profession and under the law

HAWL'S GOALS & OBJECTIVES

  • Deliver relevant and meaningful mentoring and professional development opportunities for our members.
  • Foster leadership, community engagement, and service opportunities in the legal profession and the community at large.
  • Recognize, encourage, and promote the unique talents, strengths  and contributions of women in the legal profession and the judiciary.
  • Champion gender equality within the legal profession and under the law.
  • Collaborate with other organizations to enhance leadership  opportunities, provide educational programs, and facilitate social and  networking events.
